ChatGPT Trick, Living Longer, Future Paint, & Hilarious Critical Thinking
Seriously, this works magic!
Hi All!
Avisha NessAiver here- aka DistilledScience. You signed up a while ago to get occasional cool links and updates from me, and I’m trying to become more consistent with it! Let me know how you like this week’s iteration, either by responding here or on my “slowly getting active” Discord server!  Feel free to forward this along to friends.
Chat GPT Trick I’ve Been Using
I saw a TikTok video about curing insomnia. It was a good idea, but I kept losing sleep trying to make it shorter.
I’ve been using Chat GPT to help with tasks ranging from web design to video planning to topical joke writing. But the usefulness of its results can vary widely based on your input. Just imagine it having been trained on millions of Facebook discussions–you don’t want those factoring into its advice to you. Instead, you can use something called “role prompting.” Here’s an example.
Let’s say you want to get some marketing advice– first, assign a role to the AI. For example: "You are an expert in digital marketing, copywriting, and human psychology. You have helped people craft effective advertisements for 20 years. Your task is to give the best advice about crafting online ads." A great way to take it to the next level is to add: “You must always ask questions before you answer so you can better understand what the questioner is seeking.” Doing so will prompt it to ask you questions, which will further improve its results.
Book I’m Excited to Read
Outlive: The Science and Art of Longevity. Peter Attia is one of the few figures in the health and wellness space that I trust to be open-minded; applying cutting-edge science to everyday practice but tempering that with a grounded approach toward evidence and statistics. If you want to live longer based on science rather than magic rituals, I’d highly recommend giving this a read.
Cool Scientific Breakthrough
Physicists invented the “Lightest paint in the world.” It uses tiny aluminum particles that get their color from structure instead of pigment. The size of the particles determines the paint's color. The article claims that it's actually less toxic than paints made with heavy metals like cadmium and cobalt
1.3 kilograms of it could color an entire Boeing 747, compared to 500 kg of regular paint. The weight savings would cut a huge amount of fuel and money! More testing still needed though to see if it’s durable enough
Hilarious Video about Critical Thinking
"By definition, Alternative Medicine has either not been proved to work, or been proved not to work. Do you know what they call Alternative medicine that's been proved to work? Medicine.
I would debate this quote, saying that while that is a portion of it, the term also encompasses treatments that might work, but we either have no idea how they work, or we just haven’t rigorously studied them enough yet to be certain that they work. But the video is still entertaining and super impressive!
TikTok Hearings Summarized
For those of you who don’t know what’s been going on regarding the potential TikTok ban, here’s my favorite summary so far, combining hilarity with rational thinking:
